Metro Safetrack Red Line Shutdown

By Laura Hussey

In the June 2016 newsletter (page 15), we reported on Metro’s Safetrack program, which has been underway for several months.  As work has progressed and additional maintenance issues have been identified, WMATA has adjusted the schedule.  As of this writing, the planned shutdown of the Red Line between the Fort Totten and NoMa/Gallaudet University stations is now scheduled to last 24 days, from September 29 through November 22.

Two stations, Brookland and Rhode Island Avenue, will be closed entirely during this period, and Red Line trains will run in two segments.  Trains between Glenmont and Fort Totten will run every ten minutes, and trains between Shady Grove and NoMa will run every five minutes.  According to Metro’s website, additional details will be provided closer to the actual shutdown.  The June article provides information about alternatives for commuters to consider.   ■
