Joy Patil, the Crime Prevention Officer for the Montgomery County Police Department’s Silver Spring District, will join us at our 14 April 2004 meeting to talk about current crime trends in the area and crime prevention measures that residents can take.
Awareness of what opportunities burglars and other criminals are looking for and removing them can help you to avoid being a victim. For example, as warmer weather approaches, windows and doors may be left open or unlocked. This may provide easy access to your house when there is no activity evident to deter intruders. And don’t leave your ladder out in your yard; it makes it too easy for thieves to climb to an upper window to gain access. ■
