Tuesday, 26 April, will be Primary Election day in Maryland. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you are registered as a member of a political party, you can vote that day to choose your party’s candidates for President, U.S. Senator, and Member of Congress. You can also vote for certain State judges, Board of Education members, and delegates to this summer’s party national conventions.
If you live in Northwood/Four Corners/Forest Knolls, your local polling place is at Forest Knolls Elementary School at 10830 Eastwood Avenue, two blocks north and east from the intersection of University Blvd. and Caddington Avenue. We are in Maryland’s 8th Congressional District and in Precinct 13-11.
You may also take advantage of nine Early Voting locations around the County, which will be open from April 14 to April 21 daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can vote at any of the early voting locations in Montgomery County. The two closest early voting locations to our neighborhood are located at the Silver Spring Civic Center (across from the Majestic Theatres at the intersection of Fenton and Ellsworth in downtown Silver Spring) and at the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad at 2400 Arcola Avenue, across from Wheaton Regional Library.
You must register by April 5 to vote in this year’s primary election. If registered, you can request an absentee ballot by mail before April 19 or by email before April 22. See www.montgomerycountymd.gov/elections for further information.
Montgomery County historically has had one of the highest percentage voter turnouts in Maryland. However, in 2014, our turnout was among the lowest. If you vote, your voice will be heard, and if our County votes at a higher rate, our priorities will be given more weight.
Don’t forget to vote! ■
