North Four Corners News ♦ April 2025
We’ve had a good start for the NFCCA 2024-2025 dues cycle; NFCCA has collected dues from 261 households. Your dues mainly pay for this newsletter. Other expenses include the cost of events NFCCA hosts for the neighborhood, our listserv, and Zoom. If you haven’t had a chance to pay the $15 annual dues yet, go to the link at the bottom.
NFCCA’s next General Meeting is on Wednesday, 9 April, at 7:30 p.m. at the Forest Knolls Elementary School. At the suggestion of one of our neighbors, David Oberholzer (Cavalier Drive), we will be hearing from Tierney Acosta with the Food Forest Collective, an organization whose goal is to serve the planet and local communities by up-cycling used goods and then creating food forests and planting fruit trees in local communities to enhance food security, increase sustainability, and support the planet. Unused goods (primarily vehicles, motorcycles, motorhomes, and RVs) are restored and resold to finance the organization’s activities.
It’s been a busy month. I testified (see link below) on behalf of NFCCA at the 27 February public hearing of the Montgomery County Planning Board on the University Boulevard Corridor Plan (UBCP). On 11 March, the Montgomery County Council held its public hearing on ZTA 25-02, More Housing N.O.W., at which I also testified for our civic association. Copies of these statements are posted on the “MoCo Planning” webpage on nfcca.org. I want to thank everyone who filled out the UBCP survey, participated in our working group, and filed letters of your own. It takes a village to voice the perspectives of our community!
Thanks to the leadership of Corinne Stevens, our successful vine cutting cleanup along the creek on Lockridge Drive attracted 44 volunteers, who worked together to cut “windows” in nonnative, invasive vines and picked up a lot of trash as well. After three successive years, we are beginning to make some headway, but it takes persistence to keep the fast-growing weeds in check!
NFCCA’s Third Annual Chili & Curry Cook Off is an important component of our association’s fiscal health and continued ability to host social events that bring us all together. THANKS to all the volunteers who made this happen and to all our friends and neighbors who came out to make this event a success.
There are several upcoming neighborhood events, so Mark Your Calendars!
For further details on these events check nfcca.org or upcoming posts on the NFCCA listserv.
The NFCCA Officers and Board, along with a fantastic group of neighborhood volunteers, are doing our part to keep expenses as low as possible. Please do your part by paying your NFCCA membership dues. ■
