Although there is currently a year-long waiting list, you can request a free shade tree to be planted in your yard by the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection. In the meantime, make an appointment with Tree Montgomery staff, who will walk around your yard to identify potential locations to plant a shade tree and recommend species that are suitable. To find out more about how the ordering and planting process works, Tree Montgomery offers a detailed explanation on its website at the link just below.
TM HOW IT WORKSSo far, the Tree Montgomery program has planted more than 3,760 shade trees throughout the county. The program is ongoing and funding is available, so you can file an application now; the County advises using the Edge browser at the website just below. Alternatively, email your name, address, and the location where you would like a tree planted to trees@montgomerycountymd.gov.
