County Ranks High in Religious Diversity

Culling data from its 2020 Census of American Religion, the Public Religion Research Institute (based in Washington, D.C.) found religious diversity in the U.S. to be highest in urban areas.  Our own Montgomery County — and our neighbor, Howard County — both made the top ten list.

The 10 highest religious diversity scores, in order, are:

1. Kings County, New York
2. Queens County, New York
3. Montgomery County, Maryland
4. Navajo County, Arizona
5. Santa Clara County, Calif.
6. Middlesex County, N.J.
7. Rockland County, N.Y.
8. New York County, N.Y.
9. Maui County, Hawaii
10. Howard County, Maryland
