How Would You Describe Your Personality?

By Jacquie Bokow

Do you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert?  Introverts are often thought of as preferring to be alone, extroverts to love being around others.  Neither is exactly right.  “Introvert” or “extrovert” refers more closely to what an individual needs to recharge.

Since discovering the theory of “the four temperaments,” I’ve found that I’m more understanding of the reactions of others.  It’s certainly helped me realize my own weaknesses — and strengths.

Take a look at the diagram (click on it to see a larger image, or see the PDF version) and see if you can gauge — honestly! — where your own temperament lies.  Not everyone falls exclusively under one category.  But keep in mind that “opposites attract.”  The one you’re drawn to may well be an individual with complementary traits.  Two of the same temperaments mated may be trouble!

Maybe you think this is pseudoscience.  Perhaps you’re right.  But since I’m nearly 100 percent introverted Phlegmatic, I’m too “cold” and “wet” to care!
