Playground Equipment Update

New playground equipment for North Four Corners Park (at the end of Southwood Road, just off Edgewood Drive) is now on order.  The Department of Parks and Planning recently selected a contractor, who expects delivery of the new equipment within six to eight weeks and installation by late fall or early winter.

Under new safety standards, the existing wooden play structure is being replaced with plastic equipment.  The new equipment includes a main play structure for five- to 12-year olds, a climbing net, two swings, as well as climbing blocks and a bulldozer for two- to five-year olds.

The equipment will be green, blue, and beige with new timbers and new surfacing, consisting of a mulch-like engineered wood product.   ■
